As a sociology student, part of my second year consists of a module of which this blog is a compulasory form of assessment and my first ever, so lets do this!
My favourite sociology topics so far have been related to sexuality and the body, I have been particularly interested in examining the relationships between culture and identity and mainly realising how sociology is important in shaping society and many people don’t realise this.
I have also enjoyed learning about the founding fathers of sociology and how their work is relevant to today’s society.
Having a brief knowledge of social research I am looking forward to widening my knowledge and relating this knowledge to the dreaded dissertation I have to look forward to in my third year!
Research methods include carrying out research in order to find conclusions about the way society works and how we can change it, because as sociologists we like change (for the better obviously) and so by changing society we are creating history instead of just studying it. Although studying sociological history is necessary in order to find things to change :P
I’m looking forward to carrying out my own research using the methods we will learn in lectures and I’m sure I will benefit from this module in terms of carrying out research and writing a blog!
Yours truly, (waffling) sociologist in the making ;)
